It is a Greek creation that came from synthesis of half sibs clones. It is characterized as an early mature high yielding winter type variety, which is good adapted to the Greek environments and possess a cold hardiness until -10o C and also a high resistance to Sclerotinia spp. and many faba beans viruses.
Seeds have the shape of human kidney, light brown colour, shiny without decoration and of low tannin content.
Their protein content is high, between 23-25%. Natural amino acids and phosphorus element are plenty and grains are a very good source of energy.
‘Solon’ finally, is necessary to crop rotation as it enriches fields with plenty of azotobacterium.
